Nightlife in Manchester

Manchester is renwned worldwide for its amazing nightlife. The city is awash with pubs and clubs. There are lot of the trendy cafe bars which are very popular at the moment, but there is by no means a shortage of traditional pubs, and with the Boddingtons brewery in the city you want to have to look far for a great pint of boddys.

Manchester clubs are not quite as crazy at the days of the Hacienda Club in the 1980's, but Manchester still becomes a party city at night. As the majority of clubs frequently change there theme nights, so it os pften best th check the free newspaper city life to check whats on.

Popular Pubs include the Las O Gwrie located on Oxford Road, which is popular with students and employees of the BBC as it is located directly across the road from the BBC Manchester headquarters. Another favourite is the Old Wellington Pub which in its time has been damaged by Nazi and IRA bombs and has such has become an istitution. For those looking for something a bit more Trendy try Barca on Catalan Street which is one of citys most trendy cafe bars. For the more unsual there is the Temple of Convienience which located on Great Bridgewater Street which used to be a public convienience.

Popular clubs include the South which is located on4a South King Street which plays a varied choice of music from Northern Soul to Brit Pop, with Funk and Disco on a saturday night. Hard nose clubbers head for Sankey's Soap on Jersey Street Ancoats, Sankeys plays a mixture of techno and hard house. Truly famous is The Music Box located at 65 Oxford Street, some of the best Madchester nights have taken place here but be warned it does get very very busy here and towards the end of the night very sweaty.

Any city thats has been home to The Smiths, Joy Division, New Order and Happy Mondays and Oasis can not fail but to have a great live music scene and Manchester does not disappoint. Band on the Wall at 25 Swan Street is one of the best live music venues and hosts Jazz, Blues, Folk and pop. A must go even if youre not a big fan of Jazz is the Matt & Phred Jazz Club on Oldham Street, the atmosphere is fantastic.
