Shopping in Manchester

With out question Manchester is the main shopping centre in the North West and one of the largest in the UK. The main areas for shopping in the city are the Arndale centre and market street which thankfully is car free. In St Annes square and the Barton Arcade you will find top names such as Armani, Boss, Vidal Sassoon, Westwood and DKNY.

One of Britain's best cities for shopping, is Manchester. Whatever you're after. you will find it difficult to come away empty handed, with two huge department stores, a massive indoor shopping centre and loads of high street names.

Manchester also has all the top high street names such as Marks and Spencer, BHS, Next and Top Shop. There is also a whole host of smaller more individual and in some cases quirky shops to you to browse at your lesiure. It goes without saying there is a great choice of eating places and cafes to rest your tired feet.

Still full of designer gear is the Kendals on Deansgate, the original department store. Selfridges is the place to shop, with huge designer floors for men and women and an excellent food hall on the bottom floor. Just next door is the smart Harvey Nichols store that is very big and houses three floors.

The Arndale Centre is full of various shops from Dixons to Burtons. Big enough to get lost in, but doesn't compete with the huge neighbours.

You can not talk about shopping in Manchester without mentioning the Trafford Centre. This huge shoppers paradise was opened in September 1988. The centre has every shop imaginable under one roof and also boasts enough car parking spaces for 10,000 cars.

The Trafford Centre (0161 629 1234), one of the UK's biggest indoor shopping centres and can get very busy especially on weekends. Full of high street names and designer stores, it's worth a visit but a full day will be needed. Try out one of the many restaurants and see a film in the multi-screen cinema.

The Trafford centre is truly huge in every way, it is the size of 30 football pitches, for your security there are over 350 close security TVs in operation (so thief's beware). On a rain day over 2 tons of rain water will hit the roof in any one second. It uses a enough electricity to run a small town. It estimated that the centre will gross some were in the region of 13 billion in till receipts in any one year.

There are Customer Service Booths and Information Desks situated in all main areas.
